• When leaving home for an extended time, have a neighbor or family member
watch your house and pick up your newspapers and mail;
• Leave a radio or television on and off (with automatic timer) so the house
looks and sounds occupied;
• A home alarm system is your best protection. Home alarms are designed to
make a lot of noise to help scare off a potential intruder and alert your
neighbor; • Don’t leave
tools or ladders lying around your yard since impulse burglars can use them
to gain access into your home;
• Remove any shrubs or trees next to your home that could hide a potential
burglar from sight; •
When you buy a new appliance such as a TV or computer, destroy the box or
hide it in your trash so others won’t know you have something new and
valuable inside; and •
Store valuable items and documents such as passport, FD certificate and
property titles in a off site safety deposit box. |
