Weight loss, in the context of medicine or health or physical fitness,
is a reduction of the total body weight, due to a mean loss of fluid,
body fat or adipose tissue and/or lean mass, namely bone mineral
deposits, muscle, tendon and other connective tissue.
-
Unintentional weight loss
A significant loss of total body weight is a serious, chronic illness.
Substantial, unintentional weight loss is a symptom of acute or
chronic illness, especially if other evidence is present.
-
Intentional weight loss
Weight loss may refer to the loss of total body mass in an effort to
improve fitness, health, or appearance.
Adipex
Adipex (phentermine hydrochloride) is a 37.5 mg immediate release
version of Phentermine Hydrochloride and is the most popular form of
brand name Phentermine prescribed today. Adipex is white with blue
specks. The Adipex pill is oblong, scored on one side, and labeled
Adipex on the reverse. Adipex is an appetite suppressant that is
commonly used in conjunction with diet and exercise to reduce weight.
Diethylproprion
Diethylproprion is the generic form of Tenuate. Diethylproprion is used
as an appetite suppressant. Diethylproprion is used in conjunction with
an overall diet plan to reduce weight.
Ionamin
Ionamin (phentermine hydrochloride) is set in a resin matrix compound
and is manufactured by Medeva Pharmaceuticals. The resin compound in
Ionamin allows the phentermine to release slowly into the system, but is
not time-released per se. Some patients like Ionamin because they have
fewer side effects. Ionamin is the only phentermine resin on the market;
there are no generics.
Meridia
Meridia (sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate) is an FDA-approved oral
prescription medication that is used for the medical management of
obesity, including weight loss and the maintenance of weight loss.
Meridia works by affecting appetite control centers in the brain.
Phentermine
Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine. Phentermine stimulates the
central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases heart rate
and blood pressure and decreases appetite. Phentermine comes in 15 mg &
30 mg capsules and 37.5 mg tablets. Being generic, Phentermine is
typically less expensive than its commercially available name brands
Ionamin and Adipex.
Tenuate
Tenuate (diethylpropion hydrochloride) is a sympathomimetic amine.
Tenuate is also known as an "anorectic" or an "anorexigenic" drug.
Tenuate stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which
increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your
appetite. Tenuate is used as a short-term supplement to diet and
exercise in the treatment of obesity.
Xenical
Xenical (orlistat) is a weight loss medication that inhibits the
absorption of fat in your body rather than suppressing your appetite.
Xenical is useful for long term use and has been shown to be effective
for 1-2 years. Dietary fats are inhibited from being absorbed by using
Xenical and this allows about 30% of the fat eaten in a meal to pass
through the digestive tract undigested. Xenical helps to reduce and
maintain your weight, as well as to minimize any weight regain.
